VM6 Extends Internal Cloud Offerings with VMex Enterprise Edition

VM6 Software, a provider of software solutions to extend the benefits of virtualisation to Remote Office and Branch Office locations (ROBO) has released VM6 VMex Enterprise Edition. VM6 says VMex leverages Microsoft Hyper-V to create an internal cloud to provision, consolidate, manage and protect all of the ROBO workloads without the costs and complexity of traditional solutions. Therefore, installation and maintenance requires Microsoft Certified System Engineers specialized personnel. With the single console to manage the entire enterprise, or each site individually, administrators have the ability to easily manage up to 65,000 distributed objects.

VM6 VMex is a solution aimed at providing Virtualisation (Server and Desktop), Shared Storage (Virtual SAN) as well as High Availability (HA) & failover in a single and simple software package. It requires 2 standard x86 servers with Microsoft Windows Server 2008(R). Since everything is integrated into the VM6 VMex solution there is no particular need for external storage (SAN), third party software for replication, High Availability (HA), VDI broker, management and so on. VM6 says VMex is a quick to set-up (15 minutes) and simple to manage, with a very low footprint and dramatically reduced power consumption. VM6 VMex is expected to provide 70% lower TCO over 3 years when compared to alternative approaches. Additionally, VM6 VMex provides a centralized management interface that can be accessed remotely to monitor, alert and orchestrate your distributed virtualised environment.

Features of the new release include:

Scale: VM6 VMex Enterprise Edition includes a telecommunication function to supports an unlimited number of sites. Also, VM6 VMex is meant to enable the local infrastructure to scale up to 32 nodes and supports unlimited Virtual Shared Storage in each site

Embedded VDI: the releas sports embedded virtual desktop infrastructure brokering (VDI) designed specifically for the needs of remote or branch offices, which is meant to remove the dependency on wide area networks, (optimized for low bandwidth and high latency), allows for a portfolio of desktop and virtualized servers, and reduces resource utilization as it doesn’t require expensive shared storage

Enterprise IT Management Console: the release includes monitoring and alerting features including default monitoring and recovery plans. With the intuitive dashboard and centralized event logs, administrators can get a consolidated health assessment of the entire enterprise. VM6 VMex can also be configured so that alerts can trigger external commands or Power Shell scripts
