Red Hat Upgrades Middleware Platform with JBoss Enterprise SOA Platform 5.0
Red Hat has updated its middleware portfolio with JBoss Enterprise SOA Platform 5.0 that it says can provide improved web services and cloud integration. The company claims businesses can use JBoss Enterprise SOA Platform to customise the platform deployment to suit their specific needs, including using the entire solution, its individual components and even integrate it with third-party open- and closed-source products and tools. Early adopters of the JBoss Enterprise SOA Platform cut across a wide swathe of industries including financial services, transportation, telecom, government and entertainment.

Oracle Launches OLTP Machine Exadata 2 in India
OLTP is a widely accepted technology known to deliver extreme performance and scalability for online transaction processing. Oracle has launched Oracle Exadata Version 2 in the Indian market, which it says is the world’s fastest and only online transaction processing machine. The new machine is targeted at enterprises in the manufacturing, government, telecom, financial and public sectors. In order to cater to the ever increasing demands of the growing data centers in India, Oracle intends to use Exadata to leverage itself with respect to its key competitors in the area, specifically IBM.

Nordic Edge Turns Google NexusOne, Windows Mobile and Jave ME phones into Security Devices
Companies and organizations want to find an economical, secure and user-friendly security solutions that employees or customers can use to connect without requiring hardware tokens can now turn to Nordic Edge. The Swedish firm has developed a mobile client, Pledge, which turns phones like Google Nexus One and Windows Mobile into a security token.

Indians Most Trust its IT Sector and India Headquartered Companies
India-based companies have emerged as the most trusted ones, with the technology sector being ranked the highest in terms of transparency and credibility, according to the recently released report from Edelman Trust Barometer. India-headquartered companies are trusted by a majority of people in the country. While US' trust in technology is 78 percent and China is 83 percent, in India it is 88 percent. Technology is the most trusted sector in India at 88%, followed by banks, automotive (79%), pharmaceuticals (75%), healthcare (73%), entertainment (70%) and media at a relatively low 58%.

Rackspace Offers SharePoint as a Cloud Service
IT hosting firm Rackspace has added Microsoft SharePoint to its cloud computing suite of services. The Rackspace offering includes a control panel to allow administrators initiate SharePoint, add/remove users and create SharePoint sites. Administrators can also use the control panel to manage Rackspace Email & Apps’ full suite of applications, including hosted Microsoft Exchange, Rackspace Email, Email Archiving, and Rackspace Cloud Drive and Server Backup, in one dashboard.

Oracle Snaps Up SOA Management Vendor AmberPoint
Oracle has acquired AmberPoint to strengthen the Oracle Fusion Middleware SOA Suite and Oracle Enterprise Manager with top of the line SOA management capabilities.

Intel-powered Citrix XenDesktop Claims to Run 5000 Desktops from one Virtualisation Server
Citrix is lending a helping hand to companies looking at lowering their infrastructure costs. Its newly released XenDesktop 4 server with FlexCast technology can deliver up to 125 virtual-based desktops, 500 hosted shared desktops and 5000 local streamed desktops from a single physical server. The company says the new desktop virtualisation solution was made possible with Intel's Xeon processor 5500 technology. With XenDesktop 4, desktop virtualisation can now possibly be implemented with 20 percent lower infrastructure costs.

LTech CloudMove Automates Moving Files from SharePoint to Google Apps
LTech releases a tool to automate migration of documents from SharePoint to Google Sites. Ed Laczynski says if organisations are migrating from the SharePoint platform to Google Apps, the new tool will save them time and money by allowing for automated uploads of vast amount of files to Google Sites. Therefore, administrators will be able to speed up the process of transferring files and documents to Google Apps Sites, which is the content collaboration platform for Google Apps.

BMC Software Acquires Phurnace Software
BMC Software has acquired Phurnace Software, a developer of Java-based automation software aimed at significantly reducing the cost, complexity and risk to deploy and configure Java-based applications on physical, virtual and cloud environments. The Houston-based supplier of systems management software did not disclose how much it shelled out for Phurnace.

VM6 Extends Internal Cloud Offerings with VMex Enterprise Edition
VM6 Software, a provider of software solutions to extend the benefits of virtualisation to Remote Office and Branch Office locations has released VM6 VMex Enterprise Edition. VM6 says VMex leverages Microsoft Hyper-V to create an internal cloud to provision, consolidate, manage and protect all of the ROBO workloads without the costs and complexity of traditional solutions.

A recent survey examining the link between finance and IT during the current economic downturn found a willingness from financial professionals to invest in existing IT systems. According to the survey, financial professionals view gains in efficiency and cost savings as the two most important measures of ROI for IT projects – areas that can be addressed by application modernization.
